A company founded in 2003, Actors Scene Unseen has developed a reputation for extraordinary theater produced for listeners and viewers with the use of technical expertise, and with the engineering skills of James Vita, and this latest adaptation will only strengthen that reputation." - Metro Spirit, 2008

Reviews

"… a ghost story onstage can convey a special aura when well performed. And this one certainly is. … Amy Laughter gives a stunning performance as the young Governess … Aaron White adroitly plays three characters: the Master, the Housekeeper, and the boy Miles … The lighting and set, designed by James Vita, also produce mysterious shadows, colors, and shapes. James's complex psychological study of the ghostly identities and fears that we carry within us, while alive, or find in others as shadows of repressed desires, comes alive in the various stage spaces, performing bodies, and theatrical effects of this production. …perhaps it will be revived by its talented director, Elizabeth Peterson-Vita, at some point in the future, so that more souls may experience the uncanny magic and wisdom of this show."

Amid a dense weekend schedule ... I was able to peep in on Actors Scene Unseen and their venture into Halloween latenight, The Turn of the Screw ... Meg Wood as the governess in Henry James's celebrated ghost yarn ... as followers of her work could have predicted, was merely outstanding ... The real news was Aaron White, making his Charlotte debut in all the other roles at Duke Energy Theatre. White soared over the borderlines that separate one gender from another -- and the living from the dead.

Review by Perry Tannebaum, Creative Loafing. (Read the entire review)

This production of The Turn of the Screw is directed by Dr. Elizabeth Peterson-Vita, stars Amy Laughter and Aaron White, and features scenic, lighting, and projection design by Broadway trained designer, James Vita ... (more)

Technical Mastery

"Give it your all and make it beautiful", Jules Fisher 2008

That was Jules Fishers' advice to his student at the 2008 Live Design Broadway Master Classes at New York University in May 2008. What a thrill in 2007 to meet Hal Prince at a reception and awards ceremony given by the designers who have worked for him.

The 2009 Master Classes were under the artistic direction of Jules Fisher and Abe Jacob and featured the technical designs for Rock of Ages, 9 to 5, The Musical, and Hair.

This year's clesses focused on the influences of the fine arts and the subtleties of motion on emotion in mordern Theatre Design. How theatre design has changed over the years was dramatically highlighted by a comparison of the sound design for the revival of Hair by Janthon Deans with that of the original design by Abe Jocobs.
